Just two weeks before the first candle on the Advent wreath will be lit on Sunday, 1 December, Christmas anticipation comes into full swing at Vienna's Rathausplatz. From 15 November, the Wiener Weihnachtstraum 2019 organised by the city Vienna will take place.
And this year, there is a colourful program for children in the Volkshalle of the town hall. Here you can enjoy the wonderful excitement of Christmas in the Bastelstube (four stations in total). And one station is to be run by the organisers of the ZuckerBäckerball - the children's bakery.
A Christmas bakery will be set up for the little ones - suitable for children born in the year 2016 (3 years old). A ticket for the bakery costs €2. Home-made biscuits can also be bought on location. Per package sold 50 cents go to the Österreichischen Kinderdörfer.
Furthermore, you can paint owl-shaped moneyboxes with acrylic pencils and gemstones in the Volkshalle (for children born in 2013 onwards). Burning stencil motifs on wooden boxes (for children born 2012) and decorative candles motifs cut out of wax plates (for children from the 2015) are also options. Tickets to these events cost €4.
In addition, Christkind will drop by over again, accepting Christmas wishes and talking to the little ones. With a photo from the photo box, this memory will remain unforgettable. Finally, a café ensures a delicious snack and oven-fresh treats.
The handicraft room for children in the Volkshalle of the Vienna City Hall (Wiener Rathaus) is open from 15 November to 24 December 2019, daily from 9 am to 7 pm. On Christmas Day the event closes at 3 pm. Pre-registration for private persons with children is not necessary - just come by and join in!
Further information and a registration form for groups, schools and kindergartens can be found on the official website of the Wiener Weihnachtstraum.
